91_SR0397 LRB9114870KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Melody Lei-Lani Roach Barnes, who recently passed away; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Melody Lei-Lani Roach Barnes was born on April 7 26, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois; her parents were Rufus and 8 Lynnye Roach; she was the eldest of eight children; on April 9 20, 1958 she married former State Representative Eugene M. 10 Barnes; and 11 WHEREAS, Melody Lei-Lani Roach Barnes confessed Jesus 12 Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Lilydale First 13 Baptist Church; and 14 WHEREAS, Melody Lei-Lani Roach Barnes was employed by the 15 Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court, Municipal Division; 16 she first worked under Clerk Joe Gill and worked with every 17 Circuit Clerk through Aurelia Pucinski; Melody Lei-Lani Roach 18 Barnes rose through the ranks to serve as the first black 19 Supervisor in Summons Control to Supervisor of Court Clerks; 20 she retired from her position in 1993; and 21 WHEREAS, Melody Lei-Lani Roach Barnes will be remembered 22 for her dedication to her family and friends, and her passing 23 by will deeply felt by all who knew and loved her; she is 24 survived by her husband, the Honorable Eugene M. Barnes; her 25 children, Vikki (Michael, Sr.) McKenzie, EuGina Barnes, and 26 Craig (LaVerne) Barnes; her grandchildren, Michael, Jr., 27 Tiffany, Craig, II, and Timothy; her great-aunt, Irma Buford; 28 her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Curley B. Russell; her 29 brothers, Rudolph (Susie) and Harold; her sisters, Sandra 30 (Reverend George) Berry, Patricia, Yolonda, and Kim; and her 31 in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends; 32 therefore, be it -2- LRB9114870KBkb 1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 3 all that knew her, the death of Melody Lei-Lani Roach Barnes; 4 and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to the family of Melody Lei-Lani Roach Barnes, 7 along with our sincere regards.
