91_SR0378 LRB9114472KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 extend their condolences to the family and friends of 4 Reverend Dan Vinson, Sr. of Chicago, Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, Reverend Dan Vinson was born on August 6, 1924, 6 in Holly Grove, Arkansas; his parents were Joe and Hattie 7 Vinson; on September 19, 1994, he married Reverend Thenolia 8 P. Bourdeaux; and 9 WHEREAS, Reverend Dan Vinson accepted Christ as his 10 Savior at an early age at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Holly 11 Grove; in 1955 he moved to Chicago and joined the Mt. Sinai 12 Baptist Church; he served Mt. Sinai as Sunday school teacher 13 and superintendent, finance chairman, chairman of the deacon 14 board, in both local and national affiliations; and 15 WHEREAS, Reverend Dan Vinson began his Standard Oil 16 service station in 1959; he was one of the first Black men to 17 own a Standard Oil station; he owned and operated this 18 business for 28 years; in 1985 he accepted a call into the 19 ministry; he converted the service station into the Outreach 20 Mission Christian Center; and 21 WHEREAS, After his call into the ministry, Reverend Dan 22 Vinson enrolled in CBI Theological Seminary; the Outreach 23 Mission Christian Center became the House of Daniel/Outreach 24 Mission Christian Center, serving as a transitional shelter 25 for the homeless; and 26 WHEREAS, Reverend Dan Vinson is survived by his wife, 27 Thenolia; his children, Evelyn Glasco Hubbard, Alvin (Joyce), 28 Eddie (Ida), Dan, Lawrence (Tommie), Faye, Glenn (Connie), 29 Limual (Pamela), Sheila, and Eve' Lynn; his step-children, 30 Michael Smith, Greta (Maurice, Sr.) McCaster, Grant 31 Bourdeaux, Georgia Pierson, and Shirley Bourdeaux; his play -2- LRB9114472KBkb 1 daughter, Jeanette Olivia Davis; his forty-one grandchildren 2 and twenty great-grandchildren; his siblings, Willie Joe 3 Vinson, Gerline Smith, Theatria (Lola) Vinson, Herbert 4 (Sylverene) Vinson, Charley (Juanita) Vinson, Willie James 5 Vinson, Dorothy Bates, Geraldine Lee (John), and Mary Jane 6 (Melvin) Caldwell; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and 7 friends; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 10 all that knew him, the death of Reverend Dan Vinson of 11 Chicago, Illinois; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to the family of Reverend Dan Vinson.
