91_SR0326 LRB9113591CBcbA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Hilda Lopez-Arce of Chicago on March 7, 2000; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, on August 28, 6 1955, the daughter of Epifanio Lopez and Norberta Rodriguez 7 Lopez, Hilda Lopez and her family moved to Philadelphia, 8 Pennsylvania, when she was three years old; and 9 WHEREAS, Hilda Lopez was educated at St. Edward's 10 Catholic Elementary School and Hallahan High School in 11 Philadelphia; she earned a baccalaureate degree from Chestnut 12 Hill College in Philadelphia in 1973 and a Master's Degree in 13 Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago; and 14 WHEREAS, Hilda Lopez was married to Roberto Arce on 15 October 3, 1999; and 16 WHEREAS, Ms. Lopez-Arce worked as the Community Liaison 17 for the Philadelphia Coalition on Domestic Violence and the 18 Displaced Women's Coordinator for the Lutheran Settlement 19 House in Pennsylvania; in 1980, she accepted a position at 20 the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she worked as 21 counselor, assistant to the Vice Chancellor, and Staff 22 Associate; and 23 WHEREAS, In 1998, she received the Chancellor's Academic 24 Professional Excellence Award; this award is a peer award 25 designed to recognize demonstrated excellence by academic 26 professional staff members at the University of Illinois at 27 Chicago; she was recognized for her outstanding contributions 28 to UIC, including interpersonal relationships and individual 29 characteristics, professional achievements, and external 30 contributions; and 31 WHEREAS, Hilda Lopez-Arce was affiliated with the -2- LRB9113591CBcbA 1 Illinois Association of Hispanic State Employees, the 2 Illinois Latino Association Committee on Higher Education, 3 the Latino Committee on University Affairs, and the 4 Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Latinos; and 5 WHEREAS, Hilda Lopez-Arce's passing will be deeply felt 6 by her family and friends, especially her husband, Roberto; 7 her siblings, Merci, Bruni, Gloria, Ali, Eppi, Albert, and 8 Lues; her in-laws, Tyrone Spiller, Mariel Lopez, and Dey 9 Lopez; and her nephews and nieces, Jose, Roberto, Vicky, 10 Dana, Daniel, Megan, Travis, Lues, Virginia, and Eppi III; 11 therefore, be it 12 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 14 and regret the death of Hilda Lopez-Arce and extend our 15 sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it 16 further 17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 18 presented to her husband, Roberto Arce, and her family.
