91_SR0322 LRB9113613CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Vernon H. Challgren of DeKalb on Sunday, 4 March 12, 2000; and 5 WHEREAS, Vernon Challgren was born in Dayton, Iowa, on 6 June 1, 1931, the son of Harry and Edna Anderson Challgren; 7 he married Juanita J. Schroeder on September 2, 1961 in 8 DeKalb; and 9 WHEREAS, Vernon Challgren was employed by the corn 10 research department of DeKalb Genetics for 48 years, starting 11 in Dayton, Iowa, in 1949, and moving to DeKalb in 1957; in 12 1962, he began computer programming and data processing for 13 all seed crops, for both domestic and international research; 14 he retired in 1997 as senior data manager; and 15 WHEREAS, Vernon Challgren was active in local politics, 16 having served as Republican precinct committeeman for 24 17 years and DeKalb County Republican treasurer for 13 years; he 18 also served as campaign treasurer for a number of local 19 candidates and officials, most recently for the mayor of 20 DeKalb, the DeKalb County sheriff, and State Senator J. 21 Bradley Burzynski; and 22 WHEREAS, Mr. Challgren was a longtime member of Immanuel 23 Lutheran Church and served on the ushering staff for over 30 24 years, several years as head usher; he served as church 25 treasurer and as financial secretary; he was on the church 26 dartball team for 31 years; and 27 WHEREAS, Mr. Challgren was a member of the DeKalb 28 Community Bowling League for 29 years, bowling with the 29 DeKalb Genetics research team; he was a volunteer at 30 Kishwaukee Community Hospital for several years and served on 31 its Auxiliary Board; and -2- LRB9113613CBcb 1 WHEREAS, Vernon Challgren's passing will be deeply felt 2 by his family and friends, especially his wife, Juanita; his 3 son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sandra Challgren; his 4 sisters, Elna Mae Nordstrom and Doris Jones; his 5 brother-in-law, Roy Jones; and several nieces and nephews; 6 therefore, be it 7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 9 and regret the death of Vernon H. Challgren and extend our 10 sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it 11 further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to his widow, Juanita Schroeder Challgren.
