 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sadness  at  hearing of the death of Reverend
 4    Doctor Rudolph S. Shoultz of Springfield; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Reverend  Shoultz  was  born  in  St.   Thomas,
 6    Jamaica,  on  July  24,  1918; his parents were Norman A. and
 7    Wilda Shoultz; in 1951 he married Vera Pearson; and

 8        WHEREAS, Reverend Shoultz attended Moody Bible  Institute
 9    and  the  Chicago  Baptist Institute; he received a Doctor of
10    Divinity degree from the Ministerial Institute and College in
11    West Point, Mississippi; he received a Doctor  of  Humanities
12    degree  from  the  United  Theological  Seminary  in  Monroe,
13    Louisiana; and

14        WHEREAS,  Reverend  Shoultz  served  the St. Paul Baptist
15    Church in Freeport as an assistant pastor for four years  and
16    the  Second  Baptist  Church  in Dixon as a pastor for eleven
17    years; in 1968 he began serving the Union Baptist  Church  in
18    Springfield, where he served until his death; and

19        WHEREAS,  Reverend  Shoultz  began  The Radio Ministry in
20    1972, and the program  ran  until  1999;  he  also  built  24
21    low-rise  senior apartments; he was involved with the Baptist
22    Pastors' Fellowship, Springfield Ministerial  Alliance,  Wood
23    River  Baptist  District  Association,  Baptist General State
24    Convention of Illinois, Baptist State Congress  of  Christian
25    Education  (auxiliary  of  the  State  Convention),  and  the
26    National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.; and

27        WHEREAS, Reverend Shoultz was a member of the Springfield
28    Urban  League,  and  a life member of the NAACP; he served on
29    the United Way  board,  the  Chamber  of  Commerce,  and  the
30    Springfield  Housing  Authority;  he was a 33-degree Mason in
31    Central Lodge 3 and Menelik Consistory 49; he  was  appointed

 1    to  the  Springfield  Sanitary  District  Board, the Illinois
 2    Housing Development Board,  and  the  Illinois  Human  Rights
 3    Commission;  he  was  elected to the Springfield Metropolitan
 4    Exposition  and   Auditorium   Authority   (Prairie   Capital
 5    Convention  Center  Board),  and  he  served  on the Cemetery
 6    Board; and

 7        WHEREAS, Reverend Rudolph  Shoultz  is  survived  by  his
 8    wife,  Vera;  his  sons,  Norman (Flavia) Shoultz and Tony E.
 9    Shoultz;  his  daughters,  Michele  Hughes   and   Jacqueline
10    Shoultz;  his ten grandchildren; his great-granddaughter; his
11    brothers, the Reverend Hector Edwards, Stanley,  and  Egbert;
12    his  sisters,  Daisy  Campbell  and  Hilda  Edwards; and many
13    nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

14        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL
15    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16    all that knew this beloved man of God, the death of  Reverend
17    Rudolph Shoultz; and be it further

18        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
19    presented to the family of Reverend Rudolph Shoultz.
