91_SR0293 LRB9113299CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Dr. Roy J. O'Neil, Jr. of Geneva on 4 Wednesday, February 2, 2000; and 5 WHEREAS, He was born on March 3, 1926 in Aurora, the son 6 of Roy J. O'Neil and Carolyn Smith O'Neil; in 1943, he 7 graduated from East Aurora High School; he served in the 8 United States Navy as a pilot during World War II from 9 1943-1945, attaining the rank of Lt. S.G.; and 10 WHEREAS, In 1949, he received his bachelor's and master's 11 degrees from the University of Notre Dame; he received a 12 doctorate from Northern Illinois University; and 13 WHEREAS, Dr. O'Neil was employed at East Aurora High 14 School as Choral Director from the mid 1950s until the early 15 1960s; he then became an administrator for School District 16 131 in the role of Coordinator of Research and Development; 17 and 18 WHEREAS, Dr. O'Neil directed The Miss Illinois Pageant 19 from 1960-1963; he also co-founded the Mid-American Canoe 20 Race in 1961; he founded Countersearch, Inc., a management 21 consulting business in 1971, where he worked until 1994; he 22 was also the founding member and president of R.A.M.S.; and 23 WHEREAS, Dr. O'Neil was a member of St. John the Baptist 24 Catholic Church in Somonauk, where he was the choir director 25 from 1972 until 1996; he was a member of the Knights of 26 Columbus, the Loyal Order of Moose, and the American Legion; 27 he was a charter member of the Aurora Foundation and a 28 charter member of the Compassion Foundation; he was also a 29 member of the Notre Dame Club of Fox Valley and a member of 30 Phi Beta Kappa fraternity; and 31 WHEREAS, Dr. O'Neil was a member of the Outdoor Writer's -2- LRB9113299CBcb 1 Association of America and former president of the 2 Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers; and 3 WHEREAS, For over 40 years, he wrote a column for The 4 Beacon News under the pen name of "Bob White"; and 5 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family 6 and friends, especially his wife, Donna Mae; his children, 7 Kevin and Candace O'Neil, Carrie Beckman, Timothy and Jo-Ann 8 O'Neil, Shawn and Mary Pat O'Neil, and Maureen and Timothy 9 Boylan; his eleven grandchildren; and his brothers and 10 sisters-in-law, John and Laura O'Neil and Robert and Nancy 11 O'Neil; therefore, be it 12 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 14 and regret the death of Dr. Roy J. O'Neil, Jr., and extend 15 our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it 16 further 17 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 18 presented to the family of Dr. Roy J. O'Neil, Jr.
