Amend Senate Resolution 273 on page 3 1, by replacing lines 21 through 25 with the following: 4 "WHEREAS, With its growing use, there is more awareness 5 that latex and latex-containing products may trigger an 6 allergic reaction; allergic reaction to latex products occur 7 as two types: allergic contact dermatitis to chemicals that 8 are added to latex during manufacturing, and latex allergy to 9 proteins and natural rubber latex; and"; and 10 on page 1, in line 28, by changing "synus" to "sinus"; and 11 on page 2, by replacing lines 3 through 10 with the 12 following: 13 "WHEREAS, Health care workers, patients, and others 14 affected will benefit from health care providers actively 15 establishing clinically sound protocols and management 16 strategies to alert and educate health care workers and 17 patients to the implications and risks of latex allergies; 18 and 19 WHEREAS, latex allergy may develop in people who have 20 frequent or intimate exposure to it, which may include -2- SRS91SR0273AWdlam02 1 occupational exposure; at high risk are those who have had 2 frequent surgical procedures, particularly in infancy, and 3 those who are atopic. 4 WHEREAS, The individuals who are latex allergic should 5 avoid natural rubber latex products, as exposure to even 6 trace amounts could cause an allergic reaction in some 7 individuals; and".
