91_SR0263 LRB9112721CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Ellen Johnsen of St. Charles on Wednesday, 4 December 8, 1999; and 5 WHEREAS, She grew up with her two sisters and two 6 brothers on her family's farm just west of St. Charles; in 7 1942, she married Wilbur Johnsen, who died in 1974; and 8 WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnsen had worked for over twenty-five 9 years as a waitress at the Hotel Baker; she raised $50,000 in 10 the late 1980s to replace the glass-block dance floor in the 11 hotel's Rainbow Room; and 12 WHEREAS, She worked at the hotel until she was eighty and 13 was well known to all; she visited there until the time of 14 her death, talking to everyone; and 15 WHEREAS, She became involved in community events 16 including the Lincoln Elementary School PTO, the Boy Scouts, 17 and later volunteering for everything from school referendum 18 campaigns to welcoming newcomers to town; and 19 WHEREAS, Ellen Johnsen, who was known throughout her 20 community as "Mrs. St. Charles", received many awards, 21 including the city's highest award, the Charlemagne Award in 22 1995, the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Hotel Baker, 23 and the Image Award from the Greater St. Charles Area Chamber 24 of Commerce; she was given an honorary high school diploma 25 from the St. Charles School District; and 26 WHEREAS, Her love of the Cubs will long be remembered; 27 the team has lost one of its biggest supporters; and 28 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family 29 and countless friends, especially her sons and 30 daughters-in-law, Dennis and Karen Johnsen and Bill and -2- LRB9112721CBcb 1 Bonnie Johnsen; her four grandchildren; and her one 2 great-grandchild; therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 5 and regret the death of Mrs. Ellen Johnsen and extend our 6 sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it 7 further 8 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 9 presented to the family of Mrs. Ellen Johnsen.
