91_SR0257 LRB9111088CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Marija Kajfez Gornik, a resident of Beach 4 Park, Lake County, Illinois, on December 4, 1999; and 5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Gornik was born in Albelj, Slovenia 6 (formerly Yugoslavia), on November 9, 1924; she finished the 7 equivalent of eighth grade in a one room school house in 8 Banja Loca, Slovenia; and 9 WHEREAS, She left home at the age of fifteen to work as a 10 nanny and a few years later she moved to the capital city of 11 Ljubljana; shortly thereafter she escaped from Yugoslavia to 12 Austria after having witnessed war atrocities; and 13 WHEREAS, She met her husband, Ludvik Gornik in Austria; 14 they married on June 19, 1949 and a few months later 15 immigrated to America; she loved America and her goal was to 16 become an American citizen; her dream came true in 1958; and 17 WHEREAS, She was a member of the former Mother of God 18 Church and a former member of St. Mary's KSKJ; and 19 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family 20 and friends, especially her husband, Ludvik; her sons, Robert 21 and Ray Gornik; her daughters, Mary Carmody and Andriane 22 Rice; her daughter-in-law, Diana Gornik; her son-in-law, Jay 23 Rice; her grandchildren, Nicholaus and Justin (Candi) 24 Carmody, Jennifer and twins, Lisa and Jessica Gornik, and 25 Faith and Matthew Rice; and her great-granddaughter, Alexis 26 Carmody; therefore, be it 27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 29 and regret the death of Marija Kajfez Gornik and extend our 30 sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it 31 further -2- LRB9111088CBcb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to her husband, Ludvik Gornik.
