91_SR0165 LRB9107410KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Reverend Claude Arthur Bush, who 4 recently passed away; and 5 WHEREAS, Reverend Bush had been a resident of East St. 6 Louis since the 1920s and recently resided at Delmar Gardens 7 in Chesterfield, Missouri; and 8 WHEREAS, Reverend Bush was an ordained minister in the 9 Baptist faith; he served as an associate minister at Greater 10 New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in East St. Louis; he 11 worked as an assistant Sunday school superintendent and as a 12 Sunday school teacher for many years; and 13 WHEREAS, Reverend Bush was a Master Mason and a member of 14 the Jordanaires; he worked at the Aluminum Ore Company 15 (Alcoa), the St. Clair County Treasurer's office, and the 16 treasurer's office in the city of East St. Louis; he served 17 four terms as a School District 189 board member, and as an 18 East St. Louis Police Department Chaplain; and 19 WHEREAS, Reverend Bush and his wife owned and operated 20 Bush's Rib Station from the mid-1950s though the 1970s; he 21 was a former Golden Gloves prize fighter; he was a 22 storyteller, sharing tales of his childhood and young 23 adulthood; he was known as a man of God, sharing Christian 24 love with others, and demonstrating his example to all that 25 met him; and 26 WHEREAS, Reverend Bush is survived by his children, Faye 27 B. Tharp, Brenda Brooks and her husband, Richard, former East 28 St. Louis Mayor Gordon D. Bush and his wife, Brenda, attorney 29 Pearson C.J. Bush and his wife, Sandra, Ardell I. Bush and 30 her husband Robert, and Claude Barlow Bush; his sister, 31 Eugenia Burdette; his aunt, Sue Willie Moseley; his -2- LRB9107410KBkb 1 sisters-in-law, Edith King, Catherine Townsend, Odella 2 Pearson, and Theo Pearson; his grandchildren, Harry C. Tharp, 3 Jr., Jacqueline Kelly and her husband, Kenneth, Bari Lynne 4 Brooks, Robert C. Bush, Jr., Victor E. Bush, Veronica J. 5 Bush, Richard O. Brooks, Jr., Tamara R. Bush, Pearson C.J. 6 Bush II, Brian B. Bush, Gordon D. Bush II, and Christopher A. 7 Bush; his two great-grandsons, Broderick L. Sargent, Jr., and 8 Justin W. Tharp; he was preceded in death by his wife, 9 Lillian and his son, Claude Arthur Bush, Jr.; therefore, be 10 it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 13 his family and friends, the death of Reverend Claude Bush; 14 may all that knew him find peace and comfort at this time; 15 and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 17 presented to the family of Reverend Claude Bush.
