91_SR0150 LRB9106927KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Mrs. Maxine Hughes of East Saint 4 Louis, Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, Maxine Hughes was born in East Saint Louis on 6 December 18, 1952; her parents were Lemuel Straughter, Sr. 7 and Mary Frances Heard-Straughter; and 8 WHEREAS, Maxine Hughes was educated in the East Saint 9 Louis public schools and a graduate of Lincoln Senior High 10 School; she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business 11 Administration from Southern Illinois University in 12 Edwardsville; she was an employee of Ameren Union Electric 13 Company, where she served as a Statistician; during her 14 twenty-eight years of service she received many awards and 15 honors; and 16 WHEREAS, On August 23, 1980 Maxine married Jerry Hughes; 17 she confessed a belief in Jesus Christ at an early age and 18 united with Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in January 19 of 1984; she was an active and faithful member of the church 20 until her passing, serving with the Children and Youth 21 Ministry; and 22 WHEREAS, Maxine Hughes served as a team mom for the 23 girl's basketball team at Matthew Dickey's Boys Club for 24 several years; she also served as secretary for the East 25 Saint Louis Jackie Robinson Khoury League; and 26 WHEREAS, Maxine Hughes is survived by her husband, Jerry 27 Hughes; her son, Aaron; her daughter. Asha; her mother, Mary 28 Frances Straughter; her sisters, Lorraine McKinney, Deborah 29 (Arthur) Fields, Janet Estes, Mary Ann (James) Love, and 30 Patricia Straughter; her brother, Milton (Doris) Straughter; 31 her father-in-law, Leonard Hughes, Sr.; her brothers-in-law, -2- LRB9106927KBkb 1 Leonard Hughes Jr., Mitchell Hughes, and Billy Hughes; her 2 sisters-in-law, Carolyn Hubbard and Linda Hughes; her nieces, 3 Taumosa Straughter, Kishea McKinney, and Kyra Fuller; her 4 nephews, Cordell (Reisha) McKinney, Darnell Barnett, 5 Guatemion (Kimberly) Mosley, Joseph Hale, Jr., and Caleb 6 McKinney; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren, and 7 friends; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 10 her family and friends, the death of Maxine Hughes of East 11 Saint Louis, Illinois; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to the family of Maxine Hughes, along with our 14 sincere hope of peace at this time.
