91_SR0149 LRB9106928KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Reverend Bennie Frank Bonner, Sr., 4 of East Saint Louis, Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, Bennie Bonner was born in East Saint Louis on 6 December 25, 1933; his parents were John and Mattie Bonner; 7 Bennie Bonner grew up in East Saint Louis and was educated in 8 School District 189; and 9 WHEREAS, Bennie Bonner united with Mt. Zion Missionary 10 Baptist Church at an early age under Reverend B. Haney; he 11 participated in the junior choir and other church related 12 activities; he was ordained into the ministry under Reverend 13 A.L. Gee, Pastor of the Southern Mission Missionary Baptist 14 Church; he later became an associate pastor under Reverend 15 Jerome Jackson, Sr.; and 16 WHEREAS, Bennie Bonner was one of the first black drivers 17 to be hired by the Bi-State Development Agency; he later 18 organized and managed a pest control business; and 19 WHEREAS, Bennie Bonner served as a Republican precinct 20 committeeman for several years; he is remembered as outgoing, 21 friendly, and actively involved in community and political 22 activities; and 23 WHEREAS, Bennie Bonner is survived by his wife, Allie 24 Mae; his devoted companion, Peggy Riley Bonner; his sons, 25 Cedric, Bennie Jr. (Cheryl), Sebastian (Carolyn), Terrance, 26 and Leander; his daughter, Alencia (James) Aghayere; his 27 step-daughter, Michelle (Fred) Dell; his sisters, Mattie 28 Dupree, Ernestine Cotton, Susie (David) Hawkins, and Martha 29 Austin; his brother-in-law, Calvin Wicks; his brother, Dr. 30 Richard (Carolyn) Bonner; his eleven grandchildren; many 31 nieces and nephews; his cousins; and many other relatives and -2- LRB9106928KBkb 1 friends; therefore, be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 4 his family and friends, the death of Bennie Bonner of East 5 Saint Louis, Illinois; may they find peace in this time of 6 loss; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to the family of Bennie Bonner, along with our 9 sincere regards.
