91_SR0130 SRS91SR0015ABbm 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Violence experienced within families, schools, 3 communities and society can lead to negative effects on the 4 development and maturing of young minds; and 5 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has recognized that action 6 should be taken to protect our youth from the harming 7 influence of violence; and 8 WHEREAS, Many state agencies have implemented plans and 9 programs to address the issues surrounding youth, families 10 and violence in Illinois; and 11 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has initiated the Illinois 12 Violence Prevention Authority as the first, and only, state 13 violence prevention agency in the nation to plan, coordinate, 14 fund and evaluate local and statewide violence prevention 15 programs; and 16 WHEREAS, The Department of Public Health keeps statistics 17 and records regarding the instances of youth violence in 18 Illinois; and 19 WHEREAS, The Department of Public Health provides 20 information, resources and training on applying the public 21 health model to violence prevention; and 22 WHEREAS, It is in the best interest of the citizens of 23 the State of Illinois to receive unified, unduplicated 24 services and programs addressing violence prevention, as such 25 efficiency is cost-effective and successful; therefore be it 26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, That the Department of 28 Public Health study the violence prevention programs 29 currently operating within Illinois state agencies, focusing 30 on similarities among efforts; and be it further -2- SRS91SR0015ABbm 1 RESOLVED, That the Department of Public Health shall 2 issue a report stating the findings of the study on State 3 violence prevention programs and recommendations for program 4 reorganization to the General Assembly no later January 1, 5 2000; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution shall be sent to 7 the Attorney General, Director of the Department of Public 8 Health and all members of the Illinois Violence Prevention 9 Authority.
