91_SR0122 LRB9106786KSgc 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, There have been numerous occasions in which 3 Illinois citizens have had their motor vehicles damaged as a 4 result of mandated vehicle emission inspections required by 5 the Environmental Protection Agency; and 6 WHEREAS, Vehicle emission testing programs have been 7 implemented in other states that are designed to be safer for 8 the vehicle and avoid damage during the emission inspection 9 process; and 10 WHEREAS, When a person has his or her vehicle damaged 11 during an emission inspection, the person should be informed 12 as to his or her rights and compensated for the damages; and 13 therefore be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Governor 16 and the Environmental Protection Agency to examine whether or 17 not a more user friendly and proven vehicle emission test, 18 similar to the tests performed in other states, can be 19 implemented in this State; and be it further 20 RESOLVED, That we urge the Governor and the Environmental 21 Protection Agency to establish a system that would better 22 inform persons who have had their vehicles damaged during an 23 emission test, and a system whereby if a complaint for 24 damages during an emission inspection is filed, the complaint 25 is investigated by a neutral party; and be it further 26 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be delivered to 27 the Governor and the Director of the Environmental Protection 28 Agency.
