1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3 to learn of the death of Walter Douglas "Shang" Greathouse,
4 of Granite City, Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Walter Greathouse was born in Granite City on
6 December 15, 1920; on July 31, 1948 he married Mildred Hagan;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, Walter Greathouse was the executive director of
9 the Metro East Sanitary District until his retirement in
10 1998; Walter Greathouse was appointed to the Board of
11 Directors in 1977, became president of the board in 1980, and
12 was named executive director in 1984; he had also worked at
13 several area warehouse liquor companies and with local real
14 estate agencies; and
15 WHEREAS, Walter Greathouse served as a United States Army
16 staff sergeant in World War II; he was a member of the Elks
17 Lodge in Granite City, the American Legion, the V.F.W.,
18 AMVETS, DAV, the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, and St.
19 Elizabeth Catholic Church; Mr. Greathouse was also named
20 Realtor of the Year in 1977; and
21 WHEREAS, Walter Greathouse is survived by his wife,
22 Mildred Greathouse; his sons, Walter (Jan) Greathouse Jr.,
23 Brian Greathouse, and Scott (Terri) Greathouse; and his
24 grandchildren, Walter Greathouse III, Michael Greathouse, and
25 Kelley Greathouse; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
27 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we extend our sincere
28 sympathies and thoughts to the family and friends of Walter
29 Greathouse; may all that knew and loved Walter Greathouse
30 find peace at this time; and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
