91_SR0081 LRB9106490KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Judge Herman Knell of Chicago, 4 Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, Judge Knell worked on domestic relations cases, 6 first working as a matrimonial lawyer and then as a judge, 7 for more than 50 years; and 8 WHEREAS, Judge Knell was born at Michael Reese Hospital 9 and raised on the West Side of Chicago; he attended Manley 10 High School and Herzl Junior College; after his admittance to 11 John Marshall Law School, Judge Knell left to serve with the 12 United States Army in World War II; he served under General 13 George Patton in the 3rd Army and was awarded the Bronze 14 Star; and 15 WHEREAS, After World War II, Judge Knell served two terms 16 as a national judge advocate of the Army and Navy Union; he 17 was admitted to the bar in 1947 and for 35 years worked as a 18 matrimonial lawyer; and 19 WHEREAS, Judge Knell served on the bench for 16 years; he 20 was Domestic Relations Division team leader at the time of 21 his passing; he enjoyed handball and golf, and worked for the 22 Chicago Commission on Human Relations; and 23 WHEREAS, Judge Herman Knell is survived by his wife, 24 Ruth; his daughters, Marlene Knell-Brown, Debra Knell-Long, 25 and Ava Knell-Malato; his sons-in-law, Scott Brown and 26 Richard Malato; his sister, Zelda Sweet and her husband, Hy; 27 and his grandchildren, Amy, Cheryl, Michelle, David, and 28 Kelsey; therefore, be it 29 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 30 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, with 31 sadness and regret, the death of Judge Herman Knell; may his -2- LRB9106490KBkb 1 family and friends find comfort in this time of need; and be 2 it further 3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 4 presented to the family of Judge Herman Knell.
