91_SR0073 LRB9106416KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Glenn Dale Walters, Sr., of Alton, 4 Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, Glenn Walters was born in Alton, Illinois, on 6 May 7, 1931; his parents were Lee E. and Adele Elliott 7 Walters; Mr. Walters grew up around Woodburn and attended 8 Meisner High School in nearby Bunker Hill; in 1950 he married 9 the former Mildred E. Davis in Woodburn; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Walters served with the Alton Fire 11 Department for 25 years; he retired as Captain in 1986; and 12 WHEREAS, Mr. Walters was a member of the Associated Fire 13 Fighters of Illinois, and a charter member of Local #1255, 14 where he served as President from 1968 to 1975; from 1970 to 15 1976 he served as Southern District Vice President; he served 16 as President of the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois from 17 1976 to 1988; he also was honored with the title of President 18 Emeritus of Local #1255 and the Associated Fire Fighters of 19 Illinois; he also served as President of the Metro East Fire 20 Fighters; and 21 WHEREAS, He was the first fire fighter to serve on the 22 Executive Board of the AFL-CIO, where he also served as Vice 23 President; he also served on the Labor Advisory Counsel for 24 Attorney General Hartigan, the Labor Advisory Board for 25 Governor Thompson, and the Labor Advisory Board for Secretary 26 of State Edgar; and 27 WHEREAS, Mr. Walters lobbied successfully for the 28 following subjects: the political rights of fire fighters, 29 collective bargaining, and pension benefits for the widows of 30 fire fighters; he served as the business agent and chief 31 negotiating officer for Local #1255; and -2- LRB9106416KBkb 1 WHEREAS, Glenn Walters will be remembered for his 2 dedication to his job, and his dedication to his family; he 3 was well respected among local firefighters, as well as fire 4 fighters across the nation; therefore, be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS that we mourn the death of 7 Glenn Walters Sr.; may his family, friends, and fellow fire 8 fighters find peace in this time of sorrow; it takes a person 9 of true dedication to serve their community as a fire 10 fighter, and Glenn Walters was such an individual; and be it 11 further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to the family of Glenn Walters.
