91_SB1975sam001 LRB9115007REdvam02 1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1975 2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend Senate Bill 1975 on page 1, by 3 replacing lines 7 through 19 with the following: 4 "Sec. 4e. Recovery of lands; payment of legal fees. The 5 Attorney General may authorize, from funds available for that 6 purpose, the payment or reimbursement of reasonable and 7 appropriate legal fees incurred by any person, unit of local 8 government, or school district in defending any litigation, 9 action, or proceeding brought to recover lands within the 10 State from such person, unit of local government, or school 11 district, if the litigation, action, or proceeding is based 12 upon an allegation that the title or a beneficial interest in 13 the title is derived from an invalid federal land patent and 14 the Attorney General finds that a loss of State sovereignty 15 or jurisdiction over those lands or liability for rents or 16 damages may result if the land patent is held to be 17 invalid.".
