1 AN ACT concerning tobacco settlement proceeds.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 Tobacco Settlement Proceeds for Seniors' Health Care Act.
6 Section 5. Use of proceeds for seniors' health. Because
7 senior citizens comprise the population most seriously harmed
8 by the effects of smoking, not less than 25% of the amounts
9 distributed by the State from tobacco settlement proceeds
10 received by the State shall be dedicated to improving the
11 health of senior citizens in Illinois. These moneys shall be
12 used to expand community-based services for senior citizens
13 throughout the State who suffer from the effects of smoking.
14 These services may include, but need not be limited to, the
15 following:
16 (1) Home-delivered meals.
17 (2) Transportation to and from health care services.
18 (3) In-home respite care.
19 (4) Smoking cessation programs.
20 (5) Pharmaceutical assistance.
21 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
22 becoming law.
