91_SB1110eng SB1110 Engrossed LRB9101079SMtm 1 AN ACT to amend the Disabled Veterans Housing Act by 2 changing Sections 2 and 2.1. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Disabled Veterans Housing Act is amended 6 by changing Sections 2 and 2.1 as follows: 7 (330 ILCS 65/2) (from Ch. 126 1/2, par. 59) 8 Sec. 2. The assistance granted shall be in the form of a 9 single lump-sum payment to the veteran in the following 10 amount, but shall in no event exceed the sum of $15,000 11$12,000: 12 (a) Where the veteran elects to construct a housing unit 13 on land to be acquired by him or acquired after his 14 application for federal assistance, the amount of State 15 assistance shall be 25% of the total cost of the housing unit 16 and the necessary land upon which it is to be located. 17 (b) Where the veteran elects to construct a housing unit 18 on land acquired by him prior to his application for federal 19 assistance, the amount of State assistance shall be 25% of 20 the total cost of the housing unit and the land necessary for 21 such housing unit; but if the federal government pays 50% of 22 the total cost of the housing unit plus the full amount of 23 the unpaid balance, if any, of the cost to the veteran of the 24 land necessary for such housing unit, or if there is no such 25 unpaid balance remaining, then the amount of State assistance 26 shall be 25% of the total cost of the housing unit only. 27 (c) Where the veteran elects to remodel a dwelling, 28 which is not adapted to the requirements of his disability, 29 acquired by him prior to his application for federal 30 assistance, the amount of State assistance shall be 25% of 31 the cost of such remodeling, plus 25% of the cost of the SB1110 Engrossed -2- LRB9101079SMtm 1 dwelling and the necessary land upon which it is situated; 2 but if the federal government pays 50% of the cost of 3 remodeling plus the full amount of the unpaid balance, if 4 any, of the cost of such dwelling and the necessary land upon 5 which it is situated, or if there is no such unpaid balance 6 remaining, then the amount of State assistance shall be 25% 7 of the cost of remodeling only. 8 (d) Where the veteran has acquired a suitable housing 9 unit, the amount of State assistance shall be 25% of the cost 10 of such housing unit and the necessary land upon which it is 11 located; but if the federal government pays the full amount 12 of the unpaid balance, if any, of the cost of such housing 13 unit and the necessary land upon which it is situated, or if 14 there is no such unpaid balance remaining, no State 15 assistance shall be granted. 16 (Source: P.A. 84-135.) 17 (330 ILCS 65/2.1) (from Ch. 126 1/2, par. 59.1) 18 Sec. 2.1. (a) The Illinois Department of Veterans' 19 Affairs shall provide assistance to a veteran who is eligible 20 for and has been approved by the Administrator of Veterans' 21 Affairs for the grant authorized under Section 801(b) of 22 Title 38 of The United States Code for remodeling a dwelling, 23 which is not adapted to the requirements of the veteran's 24 disability, and which was acquired by him prior to his 25 application for federal assistance. 26 (b) The amount of State assistance provided to a veteran 27 under subsection (a) of this Section shall be equal to the 28 lesser of (1) the difference between the total cost of 29 remodeling and the amount of assistance provided by the 30 federal government under Title 38, Section 801(b) of the 31 United States Code or (2) $3,000$2,000. However, if the 32 amount of the federal assistance is at least equal to the 33 total cost of remodeling the dwelling, then no State SB1110 Engrossed -3- LRB9101079SMtm 1 assistance shall be granted under this Section. 2 (c) A veteran eligible for assistance under subsection 3 (a) of this Section shall not by reason of such eligibility 4 be denied benefits for which such veteran becomes eligible 5 under Section 2 of this Act. 6 (Source: P.A. 84-135.)
