1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 953
2 AMENDMENT NO. ____. Amend Senate Bill 953, on page 2, by
3 replacing lines 19 through 28 with the following:
4 "clinical staff privileges. Hospitals that require medical
5 staff members to possess faculty status with a specific
6 institution of higher education are not required to comply
7 with subsection (1) below when the physician does not possess
8 faculty status."; and
9 on page 2, in line 29, by deleting ", those"; and
10 on page 2, in line 30, by deleting "requesting an
11 application,"; and
12 on page 7, below line 10, by inserting the following:
13 "Pre-applicant" means a physician licensed to practice
14 medicine in all its branches who requests an application for
15 medical staff membership or privileges."; and
16 on page 7, below line 18, by inserting the following:
17 "(5) Any amendment to medical staff bylaws required
18 because of this amendatory Act of the 91st General
19 Assembly shall be adopted on or before July 1, 2001.
20 (c) All hospitals shall consult with the medical staff
21 prior to closing membership in the entire or any portion of
22 the medical staff or a department. If the hospital closes

1 membership in the medical staff, any portion of the medical
2 staff, or the department over the objections of the medical
3 staff, then the hospital shall provide a detailed written
4 explanation for the decision to the medical staff 10 days
5 prior to the effective date of any closure. No applications
6 need to be provided when membership in the medical staff or
7 any relevant portion of the medical staff is closed.".
