1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Insurance Code by adding
2 Section 155.36.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by
6 adding Section 155.36 as follows:
7 (215 ILCS 5/155.36 new)
8 Sec. 155.36. Liability coverage; dog exclusions
9 prohibited.
10 (a) A policy of liability insurance as described in
11 clause (c) of Class 2 of Section 4 amended, delivered,
12 issued, or renewed after the effective date of this
13 amendatory Act of the 91st General Assembly may not contain
14 any exclusion or limitation that denies or reduces coverage
15 for liability for damages because of injuries resulting from
16 or arising out of the ownership of a dog.
17 (b) After the effective date of this amendatory Act of
18 the 91st General Assembly, a company authorized to transact
19 an insurance business in this State may not refuse to issue
20 or renew a policy of liability insurance as described in
21 clause (c) of Class 2 of Section 4 solely because the
22 applicant or policyholder is a dog owner.
23 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
24 becoming law.
