1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives are
3 pleased to announce outstanding academic achievements in the
4 State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, George Washington High School's Mock Trial
6 Program has achieved an outstanding record of success since
7 its establishment in 1988; and
8 WHEREAS, Washington High School's impressive Law and
9 Government Program emphasizes skill in the trial phase of
10 litigation; students apply their classroom knowledge of
11 procedure and evidence, and act as attorneys and witnesses in
12 fictitious case scenarios; the exercise approximates the
13 realities of courtroom practice; and
14 WHEREAS, Involvement in mock trials also provides an
15 introduction to the legal or political community, through
16 contact with the practicing attorneys and judges who oversee
17 the sessions; outstanding performances can be impressive to
18 colleges as well as future employers; and
19 WHEREAS, Washington High School's Law and Government
20 Program has competed in mock trials sponsored by the Illinois
21 State Bar Association, CCLRE, and the CRFC since 1988, and
22 has compiled an impressive and continuous record of victories
23 in its 12 year existence; and
24 WHEREAS, Many students from Washington High School who
25 have participated in the mock trial program have earned
26 national recognition and college scholarships based on their
27 performances; and
28 WHEREAS, Washington High School's Mock Trial Team is
29 coached by instructor, Rod Sellers and by attorney volunteer
30 coach, George L. Tamvakis; together they have coached their
31 team to extensive victories in the program's 12 year

1 existence; therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4 we congratulate Washington High School on its achievement and
5 success in the Mock Trial Program; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to George Washington High School and the coaches of
8 Washington High School's Mock Trial program, Rod Sellers and
9 George L. Tamvakis.
