1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestone dates in the
4 history of organizations in the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, SHORE Community Services, Inc. will celebrate 50
6 years of service to persons with developmental disabilities
7 on January 1, 2001; and
8 WHEREAS, SHORE was founded in 1949 by a group of parents
9 of children with mental retardation who lived in Evanston and
10 neighboring communities; SHORE was incorporated on January 1,
11 1951; and
12 WHEREAS, Evolving from an organization consisting of a
13 small group of parents who organized a classroom for children
14 with developmental disabilities in a local church basement,
15 SHORE has become an agency serving over 340 children and
16 adults through Early Childhood Intervention, Adult Day
17 Programs, Vocational, Residential and Respite Services in
18 community based settings; and
19 WHEREAS, SHORE has received accrediation from CARE, a
20 international accrediting association, for 30 consecutive
21 years, and is supported by various local United Ways; SHORE
22 has facilities in Skokie, Evanston and Morton Grove; and
23 WHEREAS, The mission of the agency continues to be that
24 of improving the quality of life through community based
25 services for citizens with mental retardation or other
26 developmental disabilities; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29 we congratulate SHORE Community Services, Inc. on the 50th
30 anniversary of service to persons with developmental
31 disabilities; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to SHORE Community Services, Inc. as an expression
3 of our esteem.
