91_HR0905 LRB9115052KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to honor organizations and their 4 milestones in the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, The Daughters of St. Mary of Providence, located 6 at 4200 North Austin Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, are 7 celebrating their seventy-fifth anniversary of providing for 8 the needs of the developmentally disabled in the Chicago 9 area; and 10 WHEREAS, In 1913 the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence 11 came to the United States from Italy; they began their work 12 by providing kindergarten classes for children of working 13 mothers, and a hospital; and 14 WHEREAS, In 1925 Mother Rose Bertolini and the Sisters 15 took possession of the property on Austin Avenue that had 16 previously been St. Pascal's Parish; they began a new 17 ministry of treating and caring for the developmentally 18 disabled; the program was new to the Archdiocese of Chicago, 19 but soon developed into one of the finest programs in the 20 nation; and 21 WHEREAS, Property was purchased in Lake Zurich, Illinois 22 to begin a home for the older and more severely disabled in 23 1935; the property was named Mount St. Joseph and a summer 24 camp was soon opened on a piece of the property for the 25 residents of St. Mary of Providence; and 26 WHEREAS, Today St. Mary of Providence operates several 27 programs, including a Therapeutic School for developmentally 28 disabled children, the Developmental Training Program for 29 adults, a Residential program for adults, and a Community 30 Living Facility; and 31 WHEREAS, For their hard work and dedication to such a -2- LRB9115052KBkb 1 special ministry, the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence are 2 to be commended; therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 4 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 5 we congratulate the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence on 6 the occasion of their seventy-fifth anniversary of providing 7 a special ministry to the developmentally disabled; and be it 8 further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 10 presented to the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence.
