91_HR0892 LRB9114937KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize individuals in the 4 State of Illinois who have made lasting contributions to 5 their community; John W. Wozny of Steger, Illinois, is one 6 such person; and 7 WHEREAS, John W. Wozny was born on September 27, 1925, in 8 Chicago Heights; he is a graduate of Bloom Township High 9 School and Loyola University; and 10 WHEREAS, John Wozny was asked by Chicago Heights Mayor 11 Angelo "Sam" Ciambrone to explore the possibility of 12 establishing a sister city with a community in Poland; 13 Chicago Heights already had a sister city in Italy, and a 14 similar arrangement was soon worked out by Mr. Wozny and 15 Eugene Sadus, a retired high school teacher and former 16 Chicago Heights City Commissioner, for a sister city in 17 Poland; and 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Wozny contacted Wadowice, the birthplace of 19 Pope John Paul II, and the community accepted the agreement 20 to be the sister city to Chicago Heights; on October 12, 1999 21 the Joint Sister Cities Agreement was signed before a large 22 crowd at a meeting of the Chicago Heights City Council, with 23 Mayor Ciambrone and representatives from Wadowice present at 24 the event; and 25 WHEREAS, John Wozny is supported in his community efforts 26 by his wife, Patricia; his sons, Tom and Tim; and his 27 daughter, Donna; John Wozny is the author of the history of 28 his church, St. Joseph Church, and a two-volume book, 29 "Growing Up Polish: A History of Polish Pioneers in Chicago 30 Heights"; therefore, be it 31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE -2- LRB9114937KBkb 1 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 2 we congratulate John W. Wozny on a job well done; his hard 3 work has bonded the City of Chicago Heights with the City of 4 Wadowice, Poland as sister cities; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to Mr. John W. Wozny as a token of our respect and 7 admiration.
