91_HR0877 LRB9114892KBkbA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Maudell Mapp Dean, who recently 5 passed away; and 6 WHEREAS, Maudell Mapp was born on May 27, 1933 in Forest, 7 Mississippi; her parents were Sam and Marian Ware Mapp; she 8 accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age at the 9 Concord Missionary Baptist Church; and 10 WHEREAS, Maudell Mapp Dean was a graduate of Forest High 11 School and Jackson State College, where she majored in Music 12 and Voice; after college she moved to Chicago and became a 13 music teacher; she retired from South Shore Community Academy 14 in 1997; and 15 WHEREAS, Maudell Mapp Dean performed concerts in English, 16 French, German, and Italian in and around the City of 17 Chicago; in October of 1990 she received a Certificate of 18 Recognition from the Illinois House of Representatives in 19 appreciation for outstanding service to the cultural arts 20 development; and 21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Dean was President of the O'Keefe Area 22 Council; in December of 1996 she received the Third District 23 Advisory Council Appreciation Award from the President of the 24 O'Keefe Area Council, with the signatures of Chicago Mayor 25 Richard M. Daley and Third District Commander James Polk; in 26 June of 1995 she received an award of appreciation for 27 service and dedication to the young people of South Shore 28 Community Academy from Frank D. Horton; she also received 29 letters from President Bill Clinton answering her concerns 30 about the needs of people around the country; and 31 WHEREAS, The passing of Maudell Mapp Dean will be felt by -2- LRB9114892KBkbA 1 all who knew her, especially her husband, Huburt; her 2 sisters, Dollree Mapp and Lavonne Scruggs; her brothers, 3 Percy Mapp and Reverend Hardy Mapp; her sisters-in-law, 4 Elizabeth Mapp and Marjorie Mapp; her nieces, Barbara Bivins, 5 Geneva Andrews, Marian Evans, Zipporah Elerbee, and Tracey 6 Nelson; her nephews, Joseph Scruggs, Jr., Hardy H. Mapp, Jr., 7 Percy Mapp, Jr., and Percy Mapp III; her cousins, Bessie M. 8 Polley and Mabell Thompson; and many other relatives and 9 friends; therefore, be it 10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 11 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 12 we mourn, along with all who were touched by this lovely 13 woman, the passing of Maudell Mapp Dean; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 presented to the family of Maudell Mapp Dean.
