91_HR0867 LRB9114794KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored to 3 recognize significant milestones in the lives of the people 4 of this State; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Irving Brooks 6 Harris of Chicago is celebrating the ninetieth anniversary of 7 his birth; and 8 WHEREAS, Irving Brooks Harris was born and raised in St. 9 Paul, Minnesota; he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from 10 Yale University in 1931 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa; 11 and 12 WHEREAS, He and his brother were the owners of the Toni 13 Home Permanent Company until 1947; he served as executive 14 vice-president of Toni from 1946 to 1952 and director of the 15 Gillette Company from 1948 to 1960; and 16 WHEREAS, Irving B. Harris is known for his commitment to 17 improving the chances of disadvantaged children; his work 18 resulted in the creation of the Erikson Institute, The Ounce 19 of Prevention Fund, the Beethoven Project, the Doula Project, 20 and Zero to Three: The National Center for Infants, Toddlers, 21 and Families; and 22 WHEREAS, Mr. Harris established the Irving B. Harris 23 School for Public Policy Studies at the University of 24 Chicago; he is currently serving as Chairman of William 25 Harris Investors, Inc., Chairman of the Board and Director of 26 The Acorn Fund, Chairman of The Harris Foundation, and 27 Director of Harriscope of Los Angeles; therefore, be it 28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 29 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 30 we congratulate Irving Brooks Harris on the occasion of his 31 ninetieth birthday and extend to Irving Brooks Harris and his -2- LRB9114794KBkb 1 wife, Joan, our sincere best wishes for the future; and be it 2 further 3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 4 presented to Irving Brooks Harris as an expression of our 5 respect and esteem.
