1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize State Senator Dave
4 Luechtefeld as he retires as Coach of the Okawville Rockets
5 high school basketball team; and
6 WHEREAS, Dave Luechtefeld was born in Lively Grove,
7 Illinois, on November 8, 1940, the son of Sidney and Vera
8 (Klingenberg) Luechtefeld; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Luechtefeld learned about basketball from
10 the local parish priest, on an outside court in Lively Grove;
11 he played for St. Anthony's Grade School and would practice
12 at home after completing his chores on the family dairy farm;
13 Dave Luechtefeld went on to play basketball for the Okawville
14 Rockets until his graduation in 1958; and
15 WHEREAS, He earned an athletic scholarship to St. Louis
16 University, where he played for the "Billikens"; in 1962 he
17 received his Bachelor's degree and returned to Okawville to
18 begin his coaching and teaching career; in 1970 he earned his
19 Master's degree from Southern Illinois University; and
20 WHEREAS, Dave Luechtefeld has coached his teams to three
21 State tournaments, in 1970, 1980, where they placed third,
22 and 1987, where they placed second; he has seen his team win
23 nine regional championships and seven sectional
24 championships, he is the seventh winningest high school
25 basketball coach in Illinois history; his final record is 738
26 wins, 348 losses; and
27 WHEREAS, From 1995 to the present, Dave Luechtefeld has
28 served in the Illinois State Senate; his responsibilities
29 with the Senate factored into his decision to retire from
30 coaching; and
31 WHEREAS, Though he may be retiring from being a coach, he

1 will still remain active as the loving husband of his wife,
2 Flo, and the proud father of his children, Keith, Jeff, Donna
3 Tebbe, and Ryan; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6 we congratulate Senator and Coach Dave Luechtefeld as he
7 retires as coach of the sport he loves, basketball; and be it
8 further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Senator and Okawville Basketball Coach Dave
11 Luechtefeld, along with our sincere regards.
