91_HR0710 LRB9113693CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Those individuals who minister to the spiritual 3 needs of others are worthy of the highest respect and 4 admiration; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Father Vincent 6 J. Giese is celebrating thirty-five years in the holy 7 priesthood this year; and 8 WHEREAS, Prior to his becoming a priest, Father Giese was 9 an author of several books and an editor at Fides Publishing 10 Company, and he worked actively with young people in St. 11 Francis Dipola Parish on the south side of Chicago; and 12 WHEREAS, Father Giese decided to become a priest and, 13 since the Cardinal assigned him to study in Rome where his 14 classes would be in Latin, he took a five year course in 15 Latin that was taught in one semester at Loyola University, 16 then left for Rome to study for the priesthood; and 17 WHEREAS, Father Giese was ordained into the priesthood in 18 the Chicago Archdiocese thirty-five years ago; continuing his 19 active role in working with young people, he worked with a 20 number of students on the City's west side and helped them 21 form the Young Black Christian Students Organization; and 22 WHEREAS, While in Chicago, Father Giese served on the 23 Archdiocese Board of Education and was an editor on the New 24 World newspaper; he later took an assignment as 25 editor-in-chief of the Sunday Visitor in Indiana; he served 26 at St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, where he was 27 Chaplain of the school's basketball team; and 28 WHEREAS, While in Indiana, Father Giese founded the 29 Venerable Cardinal John Henry Newman Society; and 30 WHEREAS, Father Giese is now officially retired and lives -2- LRB9113693CBcb 1 at the Cardinal Stritch Retreat House in Mundelein, but 2 continues to help with the St. Joseph's Outreach program, the 3 Cardinal Newman Society, and the Vincent J. Giese Innercity 4 Scholarship Fund; and 5 WHEREAS, The illustrious life and extraordinary service 6 of Father Giese are a shining example of the love of God to 7 all people of this State; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 10 we congratulate Father Vincent J. Giese on his thirty-fifth 11 anniversary of his ordination into the holy priesthood and 12 extend to him best wishes for the future; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to Father Vincent J. Giese as a token of our great 15 respect and esteem.
