1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the Manhattan
3 Woman's Club is celebrating 25 years of service to the
4 community; and
5 WHEREAS, Members of the Manhattan Woman's Club have
6 provided activities, including dances, roller skating,
7 parties, and field trips for the youth of the community and
8 have also provided an annual luncheon with entertainment and
9 safety instructions for senior citizens of the community; and
10 WHEREAS, The Manhattan Woman's Club provides support to
11 the Manhattan Library District with monetary donations,
12 volunteers to help at the library, and by donating books each
13 year; and
14 WHEREAS, Club members have supported the local schools
15 with monetary donations, by presenting a Career Day at the
16 junior high school, and by serving an annual Teacher's
17 Appreciation Luncheon/Dinner; and
18 WHEREAS, The Manhattan Woman's Club has presented an
19 annual Prayer Breakfast with musical programs and
20 refreshments for the people of the community; and
21 WHEREAS, The Manhattan Woman's Club has sponsored blood
22 drives and conducted blood pressure screenings for the people
23 of the community; and
24 WHEREAS, The Manhattan Woman's Club provides annual
25 scholarships for high school graduates for college or trade
26 school and continuing education scholarships for club
27 members; and
28 WHEREAS, The Manhattan Woman's Club provides information
29 to the community concerning art contests, art classes, and
30 art scholarships which are available; and

1 WHEREAS, The Manhattan Woman's Club conducts conservation
2 projects within the community, which include planting and
3 tending a flower garden in the park; participating in the
4 annual Clean Up Day for the Village; participating in the
5 Adopt-a-Highway project along Route 52; as well as many other
6 conservation projects throughout the years; and
7 WHEREAS, The Manhattan Woman's Club is affiliated with
8 the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the GFWC Illinois
9 Federation of Women's Clubs, and the GFWC Illinois Eleventh
10 District; and
11 WHEREAS, The Manhattan Woman's Club has given monetary
12 donations each year to the GFWC Federated Projects, which
13 include Prevention of Child Abuse, Children's Research
14 Foundation, American Cancer Society, American Heart
15 Association, Brain Research Foundation, Canine Companions for
16 Independence, Winning Wheels, C.A.R.E., Operation Smile,
17 Project Concern International, Youth for Understanding
18 Scholarship, Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Burn Camp for
19 Children, American Indian Center, Scholarships for Native
20 Americans, Veteran's Hospitals, Independence Hall
21 Preservation, Pennies for Art, Kungsholm Puppets, Sao Paulo
22 Program, and Shawnee National Forest; and
23 WHEREAS, Members of the Manhattan Woman's Club have
24 earned the respect and admiration of all for their dedicated
25 service during the past 25 years; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate the Manhattan Woman's Club on their 25 years
29 of devotion and dedicated service and wish them success in
30 the future; and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
32 presented to the Manhattan Woman's Club.
