91_HR0669 LRB9113586DHmbA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Terminal Automation Radar Display System 3 (TARDIS) is an important tool for airport safety; and 4 WHEREAS, In 1999, Waukegan Regional Airport had 99,061 5 flights, Southern Illinois Airport in Carbondale had 112,037 6 flights, and Decatur Airport had 55,304 flights; and 7 WHEREAS, Waukegan Regional Airport, Southern Illinois 8 Airport, and Decatur Airport are not equipped with TARDIS 9 systems; and 10 WHEREAS, Meigs Airport in Chicago, which had only 65,000 11 flights in 1999, is equipped with a TARDIS system; and 12 WHEREAS, A National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) 13 team investigating the February 8, 2000 midair collision near 14 Waukegan Regional Airport has suggested that the accident 15 might have been prevented if the airport had been equipped 16 with a TARDIS system; therefore, be it 17 RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 18 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 19 we urge the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to 20 immediately provide TARDIS systems at Waukegan Regional 21 Airport, Southern Illinois Airport, and Decatur Airport in 22 order to prevent future accidents; and be it further 23 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 24 delivered to the Administrator of the FAA and to each member 25 of the Illinois congressional delegation.
