91_HR0658 LRB9113495CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Art education contributes powerful educational 3 benefits to all elementary, middle, and secondary school 4 students; and 5 WHEREAS, Art education develops students' creative 6 problem solving and critical thinking abilities; and 7 WHEREAS, Art education teaches sensitivity to beauty and 8 other expressive qualities; and 9 WHEREAS, Art education gives students a deeper 10 understanding of multi-cultural values and beliefs; and 11 WHEREAS, Art education interrelates student learning in 12 art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, Such benefits will not only be enjoyed by 15 Illinois students as they remain in elementary, middle, and 16 secondary school, but also as they become adults; therefore, 17 be it 18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 19 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 20 we support the effort of art educators throughout Illinois as 21 they work to provide numerous benefits to be enjoyed by 22 Illinois students that they will continue to enjoy as they 23 become adults; and be it further 24 RESOLVED, That the Illinois House of Representatives 25 proclaims that March 2000, shall be observed as Illinois 26 Youth Art Month, a month when the efforts of Illinois art 27 educators to bestow plentiful benefits on their students is 28 observed and supported; and be it further 29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 30 presented to Laura Milas, National Board Certified Art -2- LRB9113495CBcb 1 Educator.
