1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Mount Carmel High School has been referred to as
3 the "Miracle of 64th Street", located on the south side of
4 Chicago at 6410 S. Dante, with a history that spans almost
5 100 years; and
6 WHEREAS, As Mount Carmel High School approaches its
7 centennial, 780 young men commute to school from a hundred
8 parishes in south metropolitan Chicagoland bound together by
9 a common vision and a common goal, symbolized by the Brown
10 Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel; and
11 WHEREAS, In the Mount Carmel High School tradition, a
12 student comes to Carmel as a boy; if he cares to struggle and
13 work at it, he will leave as a man; and
14 WHEREAS, In furtherance of that tradition, the Mount
15 Carmel High School Football team has been named the 1990s
16 Team of the Decade; and
17 WHEREAS, The Mount Carmel High School Football team won
18 the State Championship in 1990, 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and
19 was State Runner-up in 1995, with an overall record of 122
20 wins and 12 losses; and
21 WHEREAS, The Mount Carmel High School Football team was
22 the Catholic League Champion ten straight years; and
23 WHEREAS, Mount Carmel High School is led by its
24 principal, Father Carl Markelz, O. Carm., and its football
25 team is led by Coach Frank Lenti, who has been named the High
26 School Coach of the Century by the Chicago Tribune with a
27 career record of 185 wins and 25 losses, leading the team to
28 eight State championships; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we congratulate Father Carl Markelz, O. Carm., Coach Frank
2 Lenti, and the 1999 Illinois State Champion Football Team of
3 Mount Carmel High School for its extraordinary
4 accomplishments; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to Father Carl Markelz, O. Carm., Coach Frank
7 Lenti, and the 1999 Illinois State Champion Football Team of
8 Mount Carmel High School.
