1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of this Body that
3 the North Suburban Library System has announced award winners
4 for 1999; and
5 WHEREAS, The Library of the Year Award goes to Glenbrook
6 South High School in Glenview; under the direction of Sue
7 Lyons, the Glenbrook South High School's commitment to the
8 North Suburban Library Foundation's Literary Circle and the
9 NSLS community is outstanding; the invaluable contribution of
10 their facility for the author series has supported a new fund
11 raising source for the library program as well as a high
12 caliber cultural event for library lovers in the Chicago
13 region; and
14 WHEREAS, The Academic Library Staff Member award winner
15 is Cathleen Zange, Director of the Benjamin P. Browne Library
16 of Judson College in Elgin; kind, honest, wise, experienced,
17 and humble, she has a deep commitment to serving the
18 students, faculty, and the library community at large; she
19 has generously shared her gifts with NSLS and its members;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, The Public Library Staff Member award winner is
22 Diane R. McNulty, Director of the Cary Area Public Library
23 District, for being passionately committed to her profession
24 and overseeing the library's building project and remaining
25 active in many intergovernmental and community groups; she
26 has been involved with many NSLS committees and encouraged
27 her library to become a Learning Organization; and
28 WHEREAS, The School Library Staff Member award winner is
29 Phyllis Rieman, IRC Coordinator of Niles West High School in
30 Skokie, who was chosen for being a leader in her field, known
31 for her innovations and forward thinking; she has been an
32 active participant on committees of NSLS, the Reference

1 Librarians Association, and many more State and regional
2 professional organizations; she is a tireless advocate for
3 not only school libraries, but for all libraries; and
4 WHEREAS, The Special Library Staff Member award winner is
5 Laura Claggett, Manager of the Corporate Library of Unilever
6 Home & Personal Care - USA in Rolling Meadows; she was chosen
7 for being a valuable resource to the other special librarians
8 within the NSLS service area; she is currently the incoming
9 president of the Illinois chapter of the Special Librarians
10 Association; she was instrumental in bringing the North
11 Suburban Special Librarians group together with the other
12 chapters from the Chicago area; and
13 WHEREAS, These individuals and institutions are indeed
14 worthy of our praise; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17 we congratulate and applaud the Glenbrook South High School
18 Library, Cathleen Zange, Diane R. McNulty, Phyllis Rieman,
19 and Laura Claggett on being chosen 1999 award winners by the
20 North Suburban Library System; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
22 presented to each of the above named individuals.
