91_HR0580 LRB9113232DHmg 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Approximately 100 drivers in Illinois wear 3 spectacle-mounted telescopes while driving; and 4 WHEREAS, Since January 1999 these persons have been 5 allowed to drive only in daylight hours; and 6 WHEREAS, Twenty other states currently allow drivers 7 wearing spectacle-mounted telescopes to drive during the 8 nighttime as well as the daylight hours; and 9 WHEREAS, From 1987 through 1998, during the 10 administrations of former Secretaries of State Jim Edgar and 11 George H. Ryan, Illinois drivers wearing spectacle-mounted 12 telescopes also were allowed to drive during the nighttime 13 hours if they met all the medical requirements established by 14 the Vision Advisory Committee, a panel of doctors in 15 consultation with the Secretary; and 16 WHEREAS, Illinois drivers wearing spectacle-mounted 17 telescopes have sustained substantial economic losses as a 18 result of not being allowed to drive during the nighttime 19 hours; therefore be it 20 RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 21 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, That 22 we urge Secretary of State Jesse White to reconvene the 23 Vision Advisory Committee and to reinstate the policy of 24 allowing drivers wearing telescopic lenses to drive during 25 the nighttime as well as the daylight hours if they meet the 26 medical requirements established by the committee; and be it 27 further 28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 29 delivered to Secretary of State Jesse White.
