91_HR0565 LRB9113095KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Richard Bundy, who 5 recently passed away; and 6 WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Bundy was appointed in August of 7 1999 to serve as the Director of the Billy Graham Center 8 Institute for Prison Ministries at Wheaton College; he 9 provided support for prison ministry officials and 10 volunteers; while serving as Director, Dr. Bundy organized 11 outreaches to local prisons, coordinated a Christmas program 12 that presented gifts to 1,000 children of the incarcerated, 13 and helped raise national awareness of the After Care program 14 for former prisoners and their families; and 15 WHEREAS, Dr. Bundy was originally from Philadelphia; he 16 received his Bachelor of Science degree in history and 17 political science from Central State University in Ohio, and 18 his Master of Divinity from Payne Theological Seminary; in 19 1996 he completed the studies for his Doctorate in Ministry 20 degree in Urban Systems from United Theological Seminary in 21 Dayton, Ohio; he also attended the Seminary Consortium for 22 Urban Pastoral Education in Chicago, Illinois; and 23 WHEREAS, Dr. Bundy was a resident of University Park, 24 where he served as Minister of Justice at New Faith Baptist 25 Church in Matteson; he involved the 5,000 members of the 26 congregation in community issues such as public policy, 27 prison ministry, AIDS awareness, economic development, and 28 community empowerment; he also served as director of Parkway 29 Gardens Activity Center in Chicago, where he developed after 30 school programs, senior programs, and recreational programs 31 for at-risk young people; and 32 WHEREAS, Dr. Bundy was the Director of the Chicago -2- LRB9113095KBkb 1 Interfaith Committee on Worker Issues, where he organized and 2 mobilized labor and religious coalitions on dealing with 3 worker injustice; and 4 WHEREAS, Dr. Bundy was the host of the TV show, "Urban 5 Forum," that focused on social justice and prison issues; he 6 also wrote many articles that dealt with both topics; and 7 WHEREAS, Dr. Richard Bundy is survived by his wife, 8 Cheryl; his nine children, and his five grandchildren; 9 therefore, be it 10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 11 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 12 we offer our sympathies to all that knew Dr. Richard Bundy; 13 may they find peace in this time of need; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 presented to the family of Dr. Richard Bundy.
