91_HR0516 LRB9110218KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Stan 4 Wallace of Champaign, Illinois, who recently passed away; and 5 WHEREAS, Stan Wallace was a native of Hillsboro, 6 Illinois; in 1950 he came to the University of Illinois, 7 where he went on to appear on two Big Ten championship 8 football teams; and 9 WHEREAS, Stan Wallace will be remembered for his 10 interception of a pass during the University of Illinois' 11 Rose Bowl game in 1952; Mr. Wallace returned the pass 56 12 yards and set up the school's go-ahead touchdown; the 13 University went on to win 40-7; and 14 WHEREAS, Stan Wallace went on to become the Chicago Bears 15 first draft pick; he played with the team from 1954 to 1958; 16 from 1959 to 1961 he played for the Toronto Argonauts in the 17 Canadian Football League and was twice named the All-CFL 18 player; and 19 WHEREAS, In 1958 Stan Wallace returned to the University 20 of Illinois and opened Stan's Gridiron, a campus bar that he 21 operated until he opened Stan's Sportsworld in 1974; and 22 WHEREAS, Stan Wallace was president of the Varsity "I" 23 Association in 1978 and was a radio commentator for the 24 Illini Sports Network for many years, broadcasting University 25 football games; Mr. Wallace was the co-chairman of a planned 26 reunion for the 1952 Rose Bowl players, scheduled for January 27 1, 2002; and 28 WHEREAS, Stan Wallace is survived by his wife, Mildred 29 "Midge"; his son, Cameron "Cam"; his daughter, Shauna 30 Lierman; and his four grandsons; therefore, be it -2- LRB9110218KBkb 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 3 we mourn, along with all that knew him, the death of Illini 4 great Stan Wallace; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to the family of Stan Wallace.
