91_HR0499 LRB9109416DJcs 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, In an order filed May 28, 1999 in the matter of 3 In re: Court Reporting, No. M.R. 15956, the Supreme Court of 4 Illinois authorized the Administrative Office of the Illinois 5 Courts to promulgate regulations concerning the use of 6 electronic recording equipment to make verbatim recordings of 7 proceedings in the circuit court of DuPage County and other 8 circuit courts; and 9 WHEREAS, Certified official court reporters appointed 10 under the Court Reporters Act have made such verbatim 11 recordings of court proceedings in the circuit courts for 12 many years; and 13 WHEREAS, Certified official court reporters are required 14 to have passed proficiency tests prepared and administered by 15 the Supreme Court; and 16 WHEREAS, Certified official court reporters perform a 17 vital role in the administration of justice in the circuit 18 courts of this State; therefore, be it 19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 20 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 21 we urge the Supreme Court of Illinois to reconsider its order 22 concerning the use of electronic recording equipment to make 23 verbatim recordings of proceedings in the circuit court of 24 DuPage County and other circuit courts; and be it further 25 RESOLVED, That we urge the Supreme Court of Illinois to 26 take no action that discourages the use of certified official 27 court reporters in the circuit courts of this State or that 28 encourages the replacement of certified official court 29 reporters with other means of making verbatim recordings of 30 proceedings in the circuit courts; and be it further 31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this Resolution be -2- LRB9109416DJcs 1 forwarded to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of 2 Illinois.
