1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the members of
3 the House of Representatives that the Mexican Patriotic Club
4 of South Chicago is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 1999;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, The Mexican Patriotic Club is a socially
7 conscious community organization located in South Chicago;
8 each year the Club adopts students through their four years
9 of college, giving $6,000 to each student; and
10 WHEREAS, The Club has worked with such issues as
11 immigration, supporting bus trips to the nation's capitol to
12 march for immigration rights; the Club also sponsors a Star
13 Trek museum outing for the children of area schools; together
14 with the University of Chicago, the Mexican Patriotic Club
15 sponsors a coat give-away; the Club also sponsors additional
16 social programs and athletic events in the community; and
17 WHEREAS, The Club sponsors the annual fiestas patrias
18 (Mexican Independence Day Festivities) which include a
19 Coronation dinner, dance, and scholarship awards; the Club
20 also sponsors a huge parade, as well as a free community
21 fiesta for residents of the Southeast side of the city of
22 Chicago; and
23 WHEREAS, The Mexican Patriotic Club of South Chicago is
24 the oldest Mexican organization in the entire City of
25 Chicago; South Chicago serves as the oldest Mexican community
26 in the City of Chicago; and
27 WHEREAS, For 60 years, this fine organization has been
28 dedicated to the community and the people; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
31 we congratulate the Mexican Patriotic Club of South Chicago

1 on the celebration of 60 years of service and dedication to
2 the Southside of Chicago; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the Mexican Patriotic Club of South Chicago.
