1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the State
4 of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, The members of the Fortnightly Club of Macomb,
6 Illinois, are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the
7 formation of their club; and
8 WHEREAS, The Fortnightly Club was founded on December 5,
9 1899; the group has met every two weeks from October to May,
10 and has met in the Macomb Public Library for most of their
11 gatherings; and
12 WHEREAS, The membership has numbered 241 women since the
13 formation of the club; the group was formed "to study current
14 events, science, and literature with the ultimate goal being
15 intellectual achievement"; and
16 WHEREAS, The Fortnightly Club began helping others in
17 1904 with the distribution of food, clothing, and Christmas
18 gifts to 45 Macomb families; they have sponsored Macomb
19 clean-up days, established the Kathryn Schuppert Scholarship
20 Fund, given gifts to orphans and county home residents, and
21 made contributions during foreign conflicts; and
22 WHEREAS, 1999 has been a busy time for the Fortnightly
23 Club, with special events to celebrate this banner year; on
24 December 5, 1999, a Century of Remembrance luncheon will
25 commemorate the founding and anniversary of this special
26 group; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29 we congratulate the Fortnightly Club of Macomb on 100 years
30 of gathering together; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the Fortnightly Club, along with our sincere
3 regards.
