1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Air Force plans on moving 60,000 cubic yards
3 of contaminated soil from the Chanute Air Force Base in
4 Rantoul to a landfill; and
5 WHEREAS, It is understood that the contaminates include
6 acetone, naphthalene, methylene chloride, trichlorol benzene,
7 anthrazine, and benzopyrene; and
8 WHEREAS, The considered sites include the Brickyard
9 Disposal and Recycling in Vermillion County, the Macon County
10 Landfill in Macon County, and the CDT Landfill in Will
11 County; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 the Air Force needs to explain why the soil cannot be treated
15 on-site as was done with similar soil by Midwest Soil
16 Remediation Incorporated at Chanute in 1993; and be it
17 further
18 RESOLVED, That we urge the Air Force to hold public
19 hearings in the county of the chosen site before any transfer
20 of the contaminated soil to that site; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
22 forwarded to Governor George Ryan, to all members of the
23 Illinois congressional delegation, and to the Air Force Base
24 Conversion Agency.
