91_HR0447 LRB9108035KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the 4 lives of people of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, Deloris Jordan is the mother of five children, 6 James, Delois, Larry, Michael, and Roslyn; her son, Michael 7 Jordan, was the star of the Chicago Bulls basketball team for 8 many years; and 9 WHEREAS, Deloris Jordan is the author of "Family First: 10 Winning the Parenting Game", a book that gives the seven 11 principles of parenting; she is also a noted public speaker 12 and a businesswoman; and 13 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jordan began her career at Corning Glass 14 Works and United Carolina Bank in Wilmington, North Carolina; 15 she serves on the boards of LaRibida Children's Hospital and 16 Research Center, The Jordan Family Institute, Sinai Community 17 Institute, Audrey Hepburn Hollywood for Children Foundation 18 (Honorary Chair), the Foundation for Peace and Stability in 19 Liberia, Inc., the University of Chapel Hill School of Social 20 Work, and Jordan Universal Marketing Products, Inc. 21 (J.U.M.P.); and 22 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jordan is the honorary chairman of James 23 Jordan Boys and Girls and Family Life Center; and 24 WHEREAS, Deloris Jordan has received many accolades and 25 honors for her work to improve the lives of others, 26 including: the Unicef Award by Audrey Hepburn, the 1998 Black 27 Trumpet Award by Ted Turner, the St. Colleta's of Illinois' 28 Humanitas Award, the Little Company of Mary Hospital's Mary 29 Potter Humanitarian Award, the University of Chicago's 30 Chicago Center for Family Health's Family Resilience Award, 31 and the National Mother's Day Committee Outstanding Mother of -2- LRB9108035KBkb 1 the Year Award; and 2 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jordan has toured the State of Israel, 3 where she met with government officials and visited the 4 Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where she presented 5 gifts and words of comfort to the people there; and 6 WHEREAS, On October 24, 1999, Deloris Jordan will receive 7 the 1999 Raoul Wallenberg Humanitarian Award from the Shaare 8 Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 10 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we congratulate Deloris Jordan on receiving the Raoul 12 Wallenberg Humanitarian Award from Shaare Zedek Medical 13 Center in Jerusalem; and we also declare October 24, 1999, to 14 be Deloris Jordan Day in the State of Illinois; and be it 15 further 16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 17 presented to Mrs. Deloris Jordan, along with our sincere 18 regards.
