91_HR0419 LRB9108038KBkbA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to extend their sincere sympathies to 4 the family and friends of Glory Deen Jackson, who recently 5 passed away; and 6 WHEREAS, Glory Deen Jackson was born in Chattanooga, 7 Tennessee, on April 28, 1936; her parents were Samuel Skinner 8 and Ruby L. Baskin; she attended Edward Jenner Public School 9 and Waller High School in Chicago, Illinois; she received her 10 Bachelor of Science in Education from Chicago State 11 University and her Master of Arts degree in Administration 12 and Supervision from Roosevelt University in Chicago; and 13 WHEREAS, Glory Deen Jackson was married to Willie 14 Jackson; she had two sons, Samuel D. Baskin-Jackson, and a 15 stepson, Robert Jackson; and 16 WHEREAS, Glory Deen Jackson worked for the Chicago Board 17 of Education from 1970 to her death; she was an elementary 18 level teacher at Luella Elementary School; she also worked 15 19 years in retail business; and 20 WHEREAS, Glory Deen Jackson held a State of Illinois 21 Teaching Certificate for grades K-9, and an Administration 22 Certificate for grades K-12; she was certified with the 23 Chicago Public Schools for immediate and upper grades; she 24 held a certificate in Union Negotiations from Northwestern; 25 she held a certificate in Secretarial Science from Teachers 26 Business College; she also held a certificate in Business 27 Administration from the Small Business Administration; and 28 WHEREAS, Glory Deen Jackson was affiliated with Zeta Phi 29 Beta Sorority, The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Mu 30 Chapter, Operation PUSH, the NAACP, the Association for 31 Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the United Negro -2- LRB9108038KBkbA 1 College Fund; and 2 WHEREAS, Glory Deen Jackson is survived by her husband 3 and sons; she is also survived by her sisters, Hager B. 4 Harris and Cassandra Ray; her brothers, Ishmael Baskin and 5 Leslie Baskin-Bey; and many grandchildren, cousins, aunts, 6 and uncles; and 7 WHEREAS, Glory Deen Jackson was a devout Christian and 8 attended church at Christ Universal Temple in Chicago under 9 the leadership of Pastor Johnnie Coleman; therefore, be it 10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 11 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 12 we mourn, along with all that knew her, the death of Glory 13 Deen Jackson of Chicago, Illinois; may there peace and a 14 comforting moment for all that find need of it at this time; 15 and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 17 presented to the family of Glory Deen Jackson.
