1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, This year marks the 80th anniversary of St. Paul
3 Missionary Baptist Church of Chicago; and
4 WHEREAS, The church was founded in 1919 at 45th Street
5 and St. Lawrence Avenue by the late Reverend Dukes; in 1959,
6 it was moved to its present location at 6954 Union Avenue
7 with the Reverend Jasper Joseph Taylor, Sr. as pastor until
8 his death in October of 1982; and
9 WHEREAS, During the past eighty years, the St. Paul
10 Missionary Baptist Church has gone through a series of
11 renovations, expansions, and modernizations, and through it
12 all has, with dedication and devotion, notably continued to
13 provide its faithful with the necessary services essential to
14 the socialization and stabilization of a community; and
15 WHEREAS, It is through the tireless efforts of such
16 dedicated individuals as Reverends Dukes, Thomas, Walton,
17 Kilgore, Webb, Irwin, and Jasper Taylor, as well as Reverend
18 Doctor Joel D. Taylor, the current pastor, that the church
19 has been a stable and enduring beacon of spiritual service to
20 its members throughout the past eighty years; therefore, be
21 it
22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24 we congratulate the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church on the
25 occasion of its eightieth anniversary and acknowledge the
26 valuable services it has provided throughout the years; and
27 be it further
28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to Reverend Doctor Joel D. Taylor.
