1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this House are pleased and
3 honored to recognize significant achievements in the lives of
4 individuals of this great State; and
5 WHEREAS, James Sheriff of Homewood has been named the
6 1998 National Driver of the Year by the American Trucking
7 Associations; and
8 WHEREAS, James Sheriff has worked for Roadway Express
9 Company for 27 years and has been a professional truck driver
10 for nearly 34 years; he has driven more than three million
11 miles without a preventable accident; and
12 WHEREAS, He was selected as Illinois Driver of the Year
13 in 1992 and 1997; he has also received a Goodyear State
14 Highway Hero Award, Roadway's Golden Q Award, and two
15 Certificates of Commendation for safe driving from the United
16 States Department of Transportation; he was also recognized
17 as a Highway Angel for his act of kindness when he assisted
18 at the scene of an accident; and
19 WHEREAS, He is based at Roadway's Chicago Heights
20 facility and is a member of Teamsters Local 710; he is
21 supported throughout his public and private life by his wife,
22 Mary Anne, and daughters, Jeanine and Jolene; therefore, be
23 it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26 we congratulate James Sheriff on being named 1998 National
27 Driver of the Year by the American Trucking Associations and
28 applaud his actions as a truck driver; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to him as an expression of our esteem.
