91_HR0276 LRB9106787CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that June 10, 1999 3 will mark the celebration of the 80th birthday of Ira P. 4 Weinstein of Glencoe; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Weinstein was born in Chicago on June 10, 6 1919; he entered the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 as 7 an Aviation Cadet, trained as a Navigator-Bombardier, and 8 rose to the rank of First Lieutenant; he flew 25 missions 9 with the 8th Air Force 445 Bomb Group, 702nd Squadron before 10 being shot down over Germany on the infamous Kassell Mission 11 on September 27, 1944; parachuting to safety, he eluded 12 capture for 6 days and was finally held as a prisoner of war 13 in Stalag Luft 1 in Barth, Germany, until the camp was 14 liberated on May 11, 1945; and 15 WHEREAS, Among Mr. Weinstein's commendations are the 16 Purple Heart, the Air Medal, the POW Medal, the Presidential 17 Citation, American Campaign and European Campaign Medals, the 18 WWII Victory Medal, and the French Croix de Guerre; and 19 WHEREAS, He married Norma Randall while still an Aviation 20 Cadet and was married to her for more than 50 years before 21 her death; and 22 WHEREAS, He returned to civilian life after the war and 23 moved to Glencoe in 1952; as president of Schram Advertising 24 Company he built the agency into a successful business; and 25 WHEREAS, He is the loving father of two daughters, Terri 26 Weinstein and Laura Temkin and the proud grandfather of Ross 27 and Max Temkin; and 28 WHEREAS, Mr. Weinstein is a major contributor to Women's 29 American ORT, was a founding member of Congregation Solel, 30 and was an active supporter of the State of Israel; and -2- LRB9106787CBcb 1 WHEREAS, He is also a lifetime member of the 8th Air 2 Force Historical Society, the Ex-POW Association, the Kassel 3 Mission Historical Association, the 2nd Air Division 4 Association, the Jewish War Veterans, and the Caterpillar 5 Association; and 6 WHEREAS, Ira Weinstein is indeed worthy of our highest 7 praise; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 10 we applaud Ira P. Weinstein for all the good work he has done 11 in his lifetime and congratulate him on his 80th birthday; 12 and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That we proclaim June 10, 1999 as Ira P. 14 Weinstein Day in Illinois; and be it further 15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 16 presented to him as an expression of our esteem.
