91_HR0227 LRB9106371KBkbA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to congratulate Father Norbert J. 4 Zawistanowicz on the joyful celebration of his fiftieth year 5 of service to the priesthood; and 6 WHEREAS, Father Norbert J. Zawistanowicz was born on June 7 5, 1923 in Moline, Illinois and attended St. Wenceslaus 8 Grammar School, Quigley Preparatory Seminary, and St. Mary of 9 the Lake Seminary, where he was ordained to the priesthood on 10 May 7, 1949; and 11 WHEREAS, Father Norbert J. Zawistanowicz received his 12 first assignment serving as an associate pastor at Immaculate 13 Heart of Mary Parish, where he served for 17 years including 14 acting as temporary pastor during the illness of Father 15 Piwka; during this time he also served as Bishop Wycislo's 16 Master of Ceremonies, until Father Norbert moved to St. 17 Joseph Parish in 1966; and 18 WHEREAS, From 1973 to 1975 he was associate pastor at St. 19 Turibius, from 1975 to 1977 he was associate pastor at St. 20 Richard's, and from 1977 until his retirement 16 years later 21 in 1993, he served as the sixth pastor of Immaculate Heart of 22 Mary; and 23 WHEREAS, Father Norbert J. Zawistanowicz has also served 24 with the Priests' Senate, the Matrimonial Tribunal, and the 25 Board of Catholic Cemeteries; while serving with the 26 Personnel Board of the Priests' Senate he compiled a 27 demographic study on personnel, church attendance, and 28 activities within the Archdiocese of Chicago; he also 29 established the Office of Research & Planning at the request 30 of Cardinal Cody; and 31 WHEREAS, Father Norbert J. Zawistanowicz currently -2- LRB9106371KBkbA 1 resides, and continues an active role in services, at Our 2 Lady of Victory Parish; he continues as a Board Member of 3 Catholic Cemeteries, represents senior priests on the 4 Presbyterial Council, and pursues his interests in reading, 5 travel, and tutoring; and 6 WHEREAS, Father Norbert J. Zawistanowicz is ardently 7 committed to the sanctity of life, having said Mass at the 8 Women's Center, and continues to lead prayer outside of 9 abortion clinics on the first and third Saturdays each month; 10 therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 12 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 13 we congratulate Father Norbert J. Zawistanowicz on his 14 fiftieth anniversary of serving as a Priest of the 15 Archdiocese of Chicago; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 17 presented to Father Norbert J. Zawistanowicz, along with our 18 sincere regards.
