1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored to
3 recognize significant milestones in the lives of the people
4 of this State; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Gilbert Rutman
6 has announced his retirement from the economics faculty at
7 Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville; and
8 WHEREAS, He received his bachelor's degree and master's
9 degree in Economics from Boston University and his Doctor of
10 Philosophy from Duke University; and
11 WHEREAS, He began his teaching career as an instructor at
12 Duke University in 1964, was a visiting fellow at Rhodes
13 University in the Republic of South Africa in 1965, was an
14 assistant professor at the University of Arizona in 1966, was
15 an assistant professor at West Virginia University in 1967,
16 and was then Chairman and Director of Economic Education at
17 Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville; and
18 WHEREAS, An author, research analyst, and consultant,
19 Gilbert Rutman was recognized as a "Great Teacher" by the
20 SIUE Alumni in 1998; and
21 WHEREAS, He participated in many innovative educational
22 programs and was a consultant to various companies; and
23 WHEREAS, Gilbert L. Rutman has earned the respect and
24 admiration of all those who have worked with him; therefore,
25 be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate Gilbert L. Rutman on his retirement from
29 Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and wish him the
30 best in the future; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to him as an expression of our esteem.
