91_HR0215 LRB9106586KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mildred 4 Petty Coleman of Chicago, Illinois, who recently passed away; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Mildred Petty Coleman was born in Pine Bluff, 7 Arkansas, on January 27, 1908; her parents were Otha Petty 8 and Mattie Harper Petty; she was raised by her grandmother, 9 Biddie Harper, with the help of her aunt, Irola Harper 10 Parish, and her husband, Reverend Andrew J. Parish, Sr., 11 after being orphaned at an early age; and 12 WHEREAS, Mildred Coleman accepted Jesus Christ at an 13 early age, received baptism, and joined with the Church of 14 Christ (Holiness) U.S.A. in Pine Bluff, Arkansas; she 15 received her education in Pine Bluff and attended the 16 Arkansas Normal College trade school; and 17 WHEREAS, She was married to Leroy Coleman, Sr., on March 18 29, 1933; together they had seven children, and in 1983 they 19 celebrated their golden wedding anniversary; Mr. Coleman 20 passed away in 1989; and 21 WHEREAS, Mrs. Coleman raised her children with biblical 22 scripture as her format; she supported the needy and the 23 elderly, setting an example of her Christian walk; together 24 she worked with her husband many years in the operation of 25 the family's service station; and 26 WHEREAS, Mildred Coleman is survived by her children, 27 Gladys Dennis (Richard), Mary Lee Coleman, Biddie C. Brown, 28 Jennett Alexander (David Sr.), Ella Washington (Harold), 29 Sarah Mutua (Jerry), and Leroy Coleman, Jr. (Shirley); her 30 sisters-in-law, Mary White and Naomi Jones; her special 31 friend and caregiver, Ernestine Horton; her grandchildren, -2- LRB9106586KBkb 1 Rodney Trottman (Phyllis), Reginald Dennis (Flora), David 2 Alexander, Jr. (Gail), Jenelle Alexander, Janice Mathus 3 (Hurman), Shannan Wahsington, Christopher Washington, Lisha 4 VanPelt (Michael), Leroy Coleman III, Geoffrey Coleman, Mwia 5 Mutua, and Jason Mutua; her ten great-grandchildren; and her 6 nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends; therefore, be 7 it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 10 we send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of 11 Mildred Coleman; may there be a sense of comfort in this time 12 of need; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to the family of Mildred Petty Coleman.
